What is pH10?

In chemistry, pH denoting 'potential of hydrogen' or 'power of hydrogen' is a scale used to specify the acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution. Lower pH values correspond to solutions which are more acidic in nature, while higher values correspond to solutions which are more basic or alkaline.


At room temperature (25 °C or 77 °F), pure water is neutral (neither acidic nor basic) and has a pH level of 7.

Alkaline Water Frequently Asked Questions

A: Alkaline water means any water that has a pH higher than 7.0. And just because water has a higher pH it doesn’t necessarily mean it is better for you. But from a science point of view, it really depends on what is causing the high pH and what is dissolved in it. Really beneficial high pH water like Designer Water achieve its benefits by creating a highly negative ion reducing water. Designer Water with a pH of 10 or higher is achieved through its proprietary ionization process which created supercharged ionized water.


A:Alkaline water means any water that has a pH higher than 7.0. The correct scientific term for water with a pH of higher than 7.0 is called a Base, whereas water with a pH lower than 7.0 is called an Acid. That said, Base or Acid water is not considered alkaline or acidic unless it has metal salts in it.

A: To know whether alkaline water is good for you or not really depends on what is causing alkalinity in the water. If its natural minerals dissolved in the water, then it’s safe within limits of course. If it’s Sodium Hydroxide (commonly known as lye), then it’s dangerous. An important thing to note is that high alkaline water and high pH water are not the same thing. What Designer Water delivers is a high pH (10 or higher) water that is created through our own and unique ionization process. This process increases the concentration of electrons; this is what gives Designer water its high pH.

A: Ionized alkaline water is water that contains mineral ions in it. Two things to consider, minerals in water become ionized when they lose or gain electrons. And secondly, ions are atoms that can be either positively or negatively charged. The positively charged atoms are what make the water pH go below 7.0 thus making that water an Acid or acidic. And negatively charged atoms make the water pH go above 7.0 resulting in the water being a Base or alkaline water. Designer Water’s proprietary ionization process creates a negative ion water (a Base) – which results in a supercharged ionized alkaline water that’s good for you.

A: Water! We understand the word “alkaline” can make you think of the batteries in your car, but there’s no metallic taste. Because Designer Water contains ionized alkaline minerals, it tastes naturally clear and clean — and each sip goes down smoothly.

A: Only if you like it nice and cold! Designer Water is completely shelf-stable for up to three years (unlike other alkaline waters), so it’s fine to keep a stash in your cupboard or tucked in your desk drawer.

A: Heating up Designer Water is great to make hot teas, coffees or any other hot drinks. The heat doesn’t affect the alkalinity much.

A: The pH strips (Litmus Paper) which are usually used to test the pH of urine or saliva cannot accurately test water as pure as Designer Water. In order to accurately test the pH level of Designer water, you should use a calibrated pH mete. Paper test kits usually require a Total Dissolved Solid (TDS) of at least 150ppm for an accurate reading; Designer Water consistently has less than 50ppm, due in part to the purified water used in our proprietary ionization process.


A: Absolutely, and we wholeheartedly support the recycling of our bottles. We only use virgin material PET-1 bottle which is perfect for recycling. Designer Water bottles can be recycled at virtually any recycling facility in the South Africa. PET is BPA (bisphenol A) and phthalate FREE.

A: The Designer Water process involves a 5-stage purification of potable tap water, followed by ionization. Physical micron filters remove suspended particles from the water supply. An activated carbon filtration system then removes organic chemicals, chlorine, chlorine by-products, pesticides, herbicides, as well as improving taste and odour. Our high-end Reverse osmosis (RO) system can remove over 99% of dissolved salts, organic contaminants, metals, heavy metals such as lead and arsenic, asbestos, many radionuclides, cysts, viruses and bacteria. Our super purified water is then infused with the perfect blend of pure alkaline minerals and electrolytes (potassium, magnesium, calcium and sodium) in trace amounts for taste. Finally, our proprietary ionization process supercharges the water, without adding bitter-tasting acidic ions, producing an ionized 10pH or higher, alkaline water with a clean, smooth, crisp taste.


A: Water purity is commonly defined by the amount of dissolved substances within it. Total dissolved solids (TDS) is the scientific term used to provide this measure and is expressed in units called ppm or “parts per million”. One ppm or milligram is the equivalent of a single milligram of substance in a liter (1,000,000 mg) of water. 100% pure water has a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) level of 0 ppm. This does not mean that water with a TDS level of 0 is better than a water with some dissolved solids, it depends on what the solids that are dissolved within it and at what level. Designer Water removes dissolved and suspended impurities from water through a water purification procedure called reverse osmosis, which creates a water that is very close to 0 ppm. We then add trace amounts of beneficial minerals to enhance taste and create a water with less than 50 ppm dissolved solids. In percentage terms this results in a water that is over 99.99% pure.


A: There is no fluoride or chlorine in Designer Water.

A: Firstly, some of the water will be absorbed before it even enters your stomach. Second, only a part of your stomach contains hydrochloric acid. Therefore, some of the water may pass through the stomach without being acidified. Also, your body does not produce stomach acid when drinking water. Third, several Japanese studies have shown a beneficial effect of alkaline water on gastrointestinal health, which infer that the water made has made it past the stomach. Fourth, when measuring urine pH many of our clients confirm that they can see the increase in urine pH to more alkaline when drinking Designer Water, high pH water.


A: Designer Water is produced in our ISO certified facility, which ensures that the bottled water is safe from microbial contamination. This is done by maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and compliance with internationally recognized quality control procedures throughout the entire production process. Also, just before the bottle is filled and capped, a trace amount of ozone gas (a form of oxygen) is used to give the water an extra level of microbiological safety. A: Designer Water can be consumed in place of all drinking water. The health community suggests drinking purified water amounting to 800ml for every 25kg. If you are exercising you can add 1 liter for every hour of exercise.


A: If the water tastes like plastic it could be that it was stored in a very hot place while it was shipped to your local retailer. It is possible for the PET plastic to change the taste; However, the bottles are BPA free and according to the health authorities, they are safe. What are the benefits of drinking water

The most significant nutrient that usually gets overlooked is WATER.

Why is Purified Water and Distilled Water Bad For You?

During nearly 19 years of clinical practice I have had the opportunity to observe the health effects of drinking different types of water. Most of you would agree that drinking unfiltered tap water could be hazardous to your health because of things like parasites, chlorine, fluoride and dioxins. Many health fanatics, however, are often surprised to hear me say that drinking distilled water or purified water on a regular, daily basis is potentially dangerous. Paavo Airola wrote about the dangers of purified water in the 1970`s when it first became a fad with the health food crowd.


Distillation is the process in which water is boiled, evaporated and the vapour condensed. Reverse osmosis or purified water is free of dissolved minerals and, because of this, has the special property of being able to actively absorb toxic substances from the body and eliminate them. Studies validate the benefits of drinking purified water when one is seeking to cleanse or detoxify the system for short periods of time (a few weeks at a time). Fasting using purified water can be dangerous because of the rapid loss of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride) and trace minerals like magnesium, deficiencies of which can cause heart beat irregularities and high blood pressure. Cooking foods in distilled water pulls the minerals out of them and lowers their nutrient value.


Purified water is an active absorber and when it comes into contact with air, it absorbs carbon dioxide, making it acidic. The more purified water a person drinks, the higher the body acidity becomes. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, "Purified" water, being essentially mineral-free, is very aggressive, in that it tends to dissolve substances with which it is in contact. Notably, carbon dioxide from the air is rapidly absorbed, making the water acidic and even more aggressive. Many metals are dissolved by distilled water.


The most toxic commercial beverages that people consume (i.e. cola beverages and other soft drinks) are made from purified water. Studies have consistently shown that heavy consumers of soft drinks (with or without sugar) spill huge amounts of calcium, magnesium and other trace minerals into the urine. The more mineral loss, the greater the risk for osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, hypothyroidism, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure and a long list of degenerative diseases generally associated with premature aging.


A growing number of health care practitioners and scientists from around the world have been advocating the theory that aging and disease is the direct result of the accumulation of acid waste products in the body. There is a great deal of scientific documentation that supports such a theory. A poor diet may be partially to blame for the waste accumulation. Meats, sugar, white flour products, fried foods, soft drinks, processed foods, alcohol, dairy products and other junk foods cause the body to become more acidic. Stress, whether mental or physical can lead to acid deposits in the body.


There is a correlation between the consumption of soft water (purified water is extremely soft) and the incidence of cardiovascular disease. Cells, tissues and organs do not like to be dipped in acid and will do anything to buffer this acidity including the removal of minerals from the skeleton and the manufacture of bicarbonate in the blood. The longer one drinks distilled water, the more likely the development of mineral deficiencies and an acid state. I have done well over 3000 mineral evaluations using a combination of blood, urine and hair tests in my practice. Almost without exception, people who consume purified water exclusively, eventually develop multiple mineral deficiencies. Those who supplement their purified or distilled water intake with trace minerals are not as deficient but still not as adequately nourished in minerals as their non-purified water drinking counterparts even after several years of mineral supplementation.


Purified water tends to be acidic and can only be recommended as a way of drawing poisons out of the body. Once this is accomplished, the continued drinking of purified water is a bad idea.


Alkaline ionized Water is the best possible drinking water. Disease and early death is more likely to be seen with the long term drinking of purified or distilled water. Avoid it except in special circumstances.

What is Micro clustered water?


Water coming from a Chanson Ionizer was tested at the prestigious Tsinghua University (Taiwan) and found to measure 47.82 Hz which happens to be the smallest cluster of H2O molecules ever tested and verified by a 3rd party. This kind of water has the following characteristics; high-reduction power or (Negative ORP) which has a higher molecular oxygen content. This can be tested with an ORP Meter. In Taiwan and the rest of the world, it is used to improve health because of its micro-clustering ability (better hydration) and antioxidant value.


These new advances in chemistry and physics now prove that all water isn't created equally!


Researchers use NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) to look for the molecular size of the water. This is one of the only known ways that you can prove and verify the molecular size.


How does this micro clustered water test work?

NMR relaxation time reflects the rate of molecular rotation (the length of time it requires for the molecule to go back to its original position after magnetic alignment).


The greater the molecular structure or water cluster the more time they need to realign themselves. The below outcomes are an evaluation of molecular size, based on NMR testing. The greater the number, the broader the line width, the larger the molecule.


In Dr. Jhon's book, The Water Puzzle and the Hexagonal Key, his research indicates that ordinary tap water carries a line width which is between 100 to 150 Hz. What Is Molecular Hydrogen?

Water Ionizer Frequently Asked Questions

A: You should start with alkaline water at level 1, pH 8.5. After about 1 week, then proceed to drink at level 2, pH 9.0 and drink it regularly. For those who have certain chronic conditions associated with over-acidity, or who are very active in sports, you may want to drink at level 3, pH 9.5 after about 1 to 2 weeks.

A: The majority of our customers have stated that they

Many customers with certain chronic health conditions also reported improvements in their condition within 3 to 6 months.

A: Yes, It is perfectly fine to let a baby drink alkaline water. If you use mild alkaline ionized water to prepare a baby’s formula milk, the properties of the milk become closer to that of the breast milk. Research showed that a baby who drinks his/her mother’s breast milk is less likely to fall ill; and breast milk is mildly alkaline.

A: Basically, you should always aim to drink at least 2 litres of water each day. Depending on your personal circumstances, you may need to drink more than this. For a person with chronic disease, who consumes excessive amounts of alcohol, who smokes, those who work outdoors in the sun or athletes may require as much as 3 to 4 litres per day. Medically, there is no set amount of water that should be consumed each day. Water is an essential requirement for metabolic function. Dr. Young recommends 1 liter for every 15kg if you have a chronic condition you are trying to improve or 1 litre for every 25kg for maintenance.

A: You may boil Alkaline Water before consuming it. Or drink it room temperature. You can also use Alkaline Water with your favourite beverages.

A: Yes, stomach acid (hydrochloric acid) is acidic. However, it is secreted only when food is ingested and, hence, our stomach does not produce this acid all the time.

Each time stomach acid (at pH 2.0) is produced, the pancreas secretes bicarbonate alkaline substances to neutralise the stomach acid so that pancreatic enzymes can work properly. Normally, after eating, there are transient changes in the blood pH, known as the acid and alkaline tides, that correspond to the stomach and pancreatic secretions. Usually the pH of the blood quickly returns to normal. However, more and more people are suffering from digestive problems where digestive secretions are out of balance due to the insufficient secretion of pancreatic bicarbonates, which is a major cause of over-acidity in the body.

Hence, many of our customers have noted that drinking alkaline water does help aid digestion.

A: You can certainly boil Alkaline Water. The Alkaline Water will retain its alkalinity and the water molecules will still be micro-clustered. However, the positive ions may be reduced due to oxidation. Alkaline Water at level 4 is especially recommended for boiling/cooking of soups, rice, and stew as it helps to reduce acidity in these foods. You will be glad to know that Alkaline Water also makes tea and coffee taste better!

A: There are many uses for the acidic water, depending on the level of acidity. In general, it is a natural astringent and sanitizer. You can use it as a toner, refresher for your face/body, or use it to rinse fruits, vegetables and meat. Beauticians are known to use acidic water for their many beauty treatments both for your skin and your hair. You can also use it for sanitizing chopping boards, cooking utensils in the kitchen, or soiled clothes, table cloths etc.

A: It is best to take Alkaline Water directly from the ionizer. However, for practical reasons, you may store the water in an air-tight container to prevent it from losing its negative ions. It is best to use a glass container or a BPA-free plastic container to prevent plastic leaching into your drinking water. Alkaline Water, when stored, is best consumed within 2 days.

A: The Chanson ionizer is built to dispense Alkaline Water consistently over time. There is no need to change the electrolysis plates since the Chanson Water Ionizers are built with Double-dipped, plates that are 99.9% titanium coated with platinum. These will last for approximately 30 years. However, the filters will need to be changed from time-to-time. The filters are designed to last for up to 9 000 litres.

A: The display panel on the Chanson Water Ionizer indicates the lifespan of the filter. Alternatively all filters should be changed once a year or 9000 litres, whichever comes first.

A: The Chanson ionizer is designed to be self-cleaning and this can take place at different litre intervals. For optimum performance, we recommend a citric acid clean, which can easily be done at home on an annual basis. It can also be sent in to us.

A: The Chanson ionizer is designed to go onto an intelligent “standby” mode when not in use. This helps save electricity. Hence there is no need to shut the ionizer down when not in use. However, if you are going away for a couple of days or weeks, it is recommended that you turn the machine off and shut the water supply to the ionizer. When you return, simply turn on the ionizer and the self-cleaning process will be activated.

A: A Chanson ionizer provides the luxury of choice. The high quality purified water can be used to take prescription medication like tablets and capsules prescribed by a doctor. Purified water goes through the filter and NO ionization takes place. This will avoid any possible interaction between the water and the medication. The Chanson ionizer also allows you to dispense Acidic Water (good for skin and hair) and this is commonly used in the kitchen for sanitization. However, it should be noted that this is not the main use of the ionizer.

A: The Chanson ionizer will always revert to the default of dispensing Alkaline Water at a safe level of pH 9.5 even if you forget to switch over or a child meddles with it. There is very little risk of consuming the Acidic Water by accident. The Chanson ionizer also has a lock function so you can lock the unit on your most frequently used pH setting.

A: The pH of the Acidic Water is set at a safe level and will not cause severe and /or immediate harm to the body. However, long term consumption of Acidic Water (such as carbonated drinks) is of course detrimental to one’s health.

Typically, any level between pH 8.5 – 9.5 is good to drink. For making soups or cooking rice, you may want to use pH10.

A: Do not be alarmed. This is the same sand-like particles you would see if you are using a steam iron. There are minerals present in our water supply and when left to sit in our bottle / jar, these particles become visible.

Just as you would use white vinegar (or citrus salt) to wash these sand-like particles off the sole-plate of your steam iron, do the same to your bottle / jar about once every 2 weeks. These minerals are safe for drinking. The higher the level of ionization, the higher the concentration of minerals, thereby making these even more visible.

You may like to know that using Acidic Water in your steam iron will help you prevent scaling on the sole-plate.

If you are using the ionizers for commercial water refilling, your daily usage will be many times more than that required by the average home. As such, you would need to activate a daily clean cycle as well as a monthly clean cycle.
